ABBEY FALLS COORG : EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

ABBEY FALLS COORG : EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Karnataka boasts of some of the most amazing and scenic hill stations in India and one of them is Coorg. Coorg is famous for misty hills, lush greenery, coffee plantations, tranquil environment. All these factors make Coorg an ideal place for a fun and relaxed vacation. Coorg is a home to some of the finest waterfalls located amidst dense forests and one such fall is Abbey falls. My hubby and I went to Abbey Falls, also known as Abbi Falls in monsoons and were spellbound by its beauty.

One thing I would like to tell you is that if you want to see Abbey falls in its full glory, then visit this place in August during monsoons. The flow of water in Abbey falls is very high during the monsoons because of the bountiful seasonal rainfall in Coorg and hence, the water plunges down the mountain slope at an enormously high speed.

Where is Abbey Falls?

Abbey Falls is located at a distance of 5.5 kms from Madikeri amidst the lush green private coffee plantations. We went by our car till the gate of a Coffee estate. After that, we walked down a bit (approx 1 Km) to reach the falls. The road to the falls was narrow and slippery winding through the dense coffee and spices plantations. Just to give you an idea, one needs to walk for about 30 minutes and then climb down stairs to reach the falls. Though it’s easy while going to the falls as it is downhill all the way. But it’s quite a task while coming back. The gushing water, falling from a height of 70 ft, makes such high thunderous roar when it hit the rocks, that you can hear it the moment you enter the coffee estate.

I must say, once we reached the falls, we were enthralled by the beauty of the cascade. The water was falling from great height, and was giving the illusion of milky white falls. There is also a suspension bridge across the falls which offers a very picturesque view of the falls from different angles. And hence this makes it a perfect spot for taking photos. We even got wet once we walked on that bridge as the flow of water was enormous.

When is the Best Time to visit Abbey Falls ?

Want to see Abbey falls in its full glory? Then visit it during monsoons or immediately after monsoons as these are the times when the falls look majestic. Why? Because during monsoons, the flow of water in Abbey falls is very high because of the bountiful seasonal rainfall in Coorg and hence, the water plunges down the mountain slope at an enormously high speed.

Time to Visit the Falls?

You can visit Abbey falls all the days of the week from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.

Just be careful of the leeches in this area and wear shoes for a comfortable walk. Also, there are a few small shops at the entrance from where you can purchase snacks and coconut water. Overall, I would say, the sound of gushing water and the surrounding mist and the flora offers a picturesque sight to its visitors and makes it a perfect place to visit during the monsoons.
