    Raksha Bandhan 2022  | The sacred festival of ‘Raksha Bandhan’ also known as ‘Rakhi’ is here to celebrate the bond of love between brothers and sisters. One of the most famous Hindu festivals, Rakshabandhan is celebrated in India amongst the siblings with great enthusiasm. This auspicious festival of Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on the full moon day of the Hindu calendar month ‘Shravana’ or ‘Saawan’ which usually falls in August. This is a perfect occasion to embrace the siblings love and cherish the bond.

    Importance of Raksha Bandhan

    Raksha Bandhan means ‘The Bond of Protection/care’. On this auspicious day, the sisters first apply tilak on their brother’s forehead and then tie Rakhi around their right wrist and pray for their happy, healthy and long life. And in return, the brothers will promise to protect their sisters from all the difficulties in life. Also, as a token of love, they give some gift or cash to their sisters and eat sweets. This sacred thread will bring positivity in brother’s life and eliminate all the negative energies from his life. Rakhi strengthens the bond between a brother and sister.

    And this is not all. Now a days, tying rakhi is just not just limited to one’s own brothers and sisters. Rather, people tie Rakhi to sisters, friends, distant relatives too. Hence, it would not be wrong to say that this festival of love has risen above the boundaries of class and caste, and has been uniting the people of India since forever with the string of love and brotherhood. After all, The feeling of Rakhi or Raksha Bandhan has always been about care and support.

    Significance of Raksha Bandhan

    The significance of this auspicious festival ‘Rakshabandhan’ can be traced back to the Puranas. The history of the custom of Rakshabandhan can be traced back to the Dwapara Yuga. In the Chapter 137 of the Uttara Parva of the Bhavishya Purana, God Krishna describes to Yudhishthira about the ritual of having a Raksha (Protection) tied to his right wrist by the royal priest on the Poornima (full moon) of the Hindu Calendar month of the Shravana.

    Are you confused when to celebrate Raksha Bandhan? And what is the the shubh muhurat, puja timings and the best time to tie Rakhi to your brother? Well, this year Raksha Bandhan falls on two dates – August 11 and August 12. And there is a lot of confusion on these two dates as to when we will celebrate Raksha Bandhan?

    August 12th is the best day to Celebrate Raksha Bandhan this year as it will also be Purnima Tithi so Rakhi can be tied any time during the entire day. Hence, August 12th is the auspicious day to celebrate this festival of love between brothers and sisters. If you are celebrating Rakhi on 11th August, then the auspicious time to tie Rakhi after 8.30 pm in the evening.
